Lyrics
All along the Riverbank
There's a path along the river
Where the meadows roar with light
By the rapids' trail, white and foamy
Close to the falling of might
You can hear the winding river
A low, rushing tone
If you make the vagrancy your own
Every now and then
When the day is a whirlpool of everlasting wobbles
I do trail downward south by the swirling river's edges myself
Any day and night
Overcast with the world's most old, intricating troubles
I regain all the curious wondering
If the salmon's still there
Here the river
Met the fleet of
Yonder days of windswept old viking sails
And the city halls were sounded by men in iron chain mails one by one, see
The eagles fly in peaceful flight
Over farms and houses to the left and right
There's a thrush with a nest by a millpond
And there's a man jumping timber logs with such graceful air of ease
In the link to the past you find in newspaper rooms
Where sawmills freed
All the hungry eyes from past
hunger days in town,
To be fighting for the unions in every aspect
in the turmoil of days
So the tale tells that the city
Soon did raise several chimneys
And a port in the future days to come for thousand hands
As the tankers came and left
As the winter turned to summer
For every soul at the river's edge
Every now and then
When the day is a skyline of everlasting freedom
I do trail downward south by the swirling river
Rod in my hand
So here I can thus recall the good deeds
Of all the folks who came to stay
Monuments still standing tall towards
Any blazing sky of peace or war
In any thunderstorm where liers soar
In any blizzard where the eyes get cloaked with snow and ice
As blindness reigns once more
I do recall that
The old summertime walks in sun and rain
Crossed the golden gate of lovers lane
Into the masquerade of fall and winter fog again
While centuries did capsize in its vein
The river's voice do hum an endless song
That comes from any time and space
And you will know its presence is near
When all your past and future do whisper clear
"This is your life
Which is yourself to steer"
